International conference themed “Sustainability and Mobility in the
Context of Smart cities, SuMoCoS” organized Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS),
Ministry of Road and Transport Development, Governor’s office of Ulaanbaatar
city together with University of Oldenburg and DLR Institute of Transportation
Systems, German Aerospace Center has today started at Puma-Imperial hotel.
The SuMoCoS
project is a travelling conference with project partners in Germany, Uzbekistan
and Mongolia and is funded by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research
(BMBF) under the Travelling Conferences grant. The aim of the project is to
strengthen the cooperation between all project partners and to further deepen
the understanding of the theoretical and practical challenges of Smart City
projects in Central Asia.
Conference
organizing committee noted that SuMoCoS conference brings together researcher,
academia with industry and administration from Germany and Mongolia and provides
the opportunity to see the suitable solution ways for improving the control of
city trafficking and for preventing the environmental issues such as air
pollution using smart technologies.
Scientists from University of Oldenburg said
that there is a need of effective ways of solving the traffic control in many
cities over the world such as Oldenburg city, Germany and Ulaanbaatar city,
Mongolia. In addition, Ulaanbaatar has high environmental pollution and that
requires the urgent attention on this issue. With this purpose, SuMoCoS project
aims to promote policy-based contributions that established on scientific results and solutions.
During
conference, Academician D. Regdel, President of MAS mentioned that
international experts say Mongolia is under rapid transition to smart
technologies such as smart phones, cards etc. A major part of Fourth Industrial
Revolution is to create a Smart City. The famous German scientists and experts
who have developed concepts and methods for building smart city have arrived in
Mongolia and organizing the conference on smart city topic. The conference will
be very helpful for scientists and related people those study "the city and the smart
city". Because we are just starting to talk about setting up a smart city at the
city level. By this conference, the experts will discuss how to make smart
services like low-energy buses and railroads, where the developed countries
have been reached on smart city subject, and where and on what subjects we need to
focus in Mongolian situations.
"The smart city's
goal is how to ensure the convenience of citizens. In more detail, the goal addresses
the issues of the environment and air pollution by using modern technology solutions
and thereby ensures the convenience of the citizens. There are
indicators of smart cities. For example, the infrastructure of the city should
be interconnected and networked. The network should be open to any
citizen" said Christian Rahmig, a German expert.
