President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Regdel D. received today the Ambassador of the United States of America to Mongolia Michael S. Klecheski.

They exchanged information about the science of the two countries and discussed future cooperation.

The Mongolian Academy of Sciences signed a memorandum of understanding with the US National Academy of Sciences in 1991.

During the meeting, President of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences Regdel D. said: “I am glad that the US Ambassador is visiting the Mongolian Academy of Sciences for the first time in history and offering cooperation. In Mongolia's foreign policy, the United States and the ambassador occupies a special place, more important than just a third neighbor. In this sense, we are interested in cooperation in the field of science. The Mongolian Academy of Sciences has experience of cooperation with the United States in the field of paleontology. In 1992, the Institute of Paleontology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences began a joint study with the American Museum of Natural History, which continues to this day. I hope our meeting will be a new starting point in our cooperation.”

The Mongolian Academy of Sciences emphasized that there is a need to train young researchers and qualified personnel in the United States and implement an exchange program between the two countries. In the past, a large number of researchers traveled to the United States for advanced training, but in recent years the number has declined. This is due to the insufficient level of language proficiency of domestic graduates. Therefore, we would like to expand cooperation between the two countries to improve the overall level of English proficiency and support the implementation of a program to attract young researchers to long-term programs.

“I am confident that our cooperation in the field of science will continue to develop. In particular, we would like to expand our cooperation in the field of linguistics. Let's move from theoretical cooperation, which is indicated in the memorandum, to practical and make it more effective. Our embassy is well positioned to develop a program that is relevant to your organization and results for researchers,” said Ambassador Michael S. Klecheski.
