In 2017, the Mongolian Academy of
Sciences established the “Innovation and Technology Department” to promote the
participation of the science and technology sector in the implementation of “Law
on Innovation (2012)” and to support its initiatives.
The IT department approved the
“Technology Transfer Procedure” of the MAS in 2018 and expanded its activities.
In 2019, the department approved the “Law on Innovation” and its accompanying
Procedures for rights and possession of the intellectual properties created as
a result of researches and experiments funded by the state budget in
cooperation with the Intellectual Property Office of Mongolia to eliminate the
violation of rights.
In 2019, 3 license agreements, two from the Institute of Biology and one from the Institute of Chemistry and Chemical Technology, were concluded and registered with the IPO in accordance with the Patent Law. From these MAS license agreements for the use of industrial intellectual property, 1.5 million MNT were earned and the researchers received their first royalties.
