By order of Russian President V. V. Putin, the citizen of Mongolia, cosmonaut J. Gurragchaa was awarded the highest state award of Russia - the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a decree "on awarding the
President of the Mongolian-Russian Friendship Association Jugderdemid
Gurragchaa with the Order of Alexander Nevsky for his contribution to the
development of a comprehensive partnership between Russia and Mongolia."
It should be noted that the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky was first
issued in 1725 by order of Empress Catherine I to award military personnel and
civilians.
The order has been published in the historical style of the
royal period since September 7, 2010 by decree of the President of the Russian
Federation Dmitry Medvedev No. 1099. A gilded statue of Alexander Nevsky on a
horse is inlaid with garnet gems on four sides, and in the center of the eagle
installation, the main symbol of the state emblem of Russia. Today it is
produced at the GOSZNAK coin factory in St. Petersburg.
Jugderdemid Gurragchaa, the second Asian
cosmonaut and the 101st man in space, became the first Mongolian citizen to be
awarded the highest state award of the Russian Federation - the Order of
Alexander Nevsky.
