On 9-10
September 2021, the Republic of Buryatia hosted an international scientific
conference on "Russia and Mongolia in the 20th century: for the 100th
anniversary of the Mongolian revolution and the establishment of diplomatic
relations."
The main organizers were of the international scientific conference were the Government of the Republic of Buryatia, the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. The event was organized with the support of the branch of the Russian Historical Society in the Republic of Buryatia.
The opening of the conference took place on 9 September 2021 in Kyakhta, where the round table talk on "The role of Kyakhta in the history of Mongolian-Russian relations" was organized and the exhibition of "Russia and Mongolia pages of history: for the 100th anniversary of the Mongolian revolution and the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Russia and also on the 50th anniversary of the Museum of Mongolian-Russian Friendship”.
In the opening of the event Director of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS, Academician Bazarov B. V. noted that the conference is organized and prepared for a high level meeting with the participation of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries. Academician Avid Budeebazar, Secretary General of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, emphasized the effective interaction between Mongolia and Russia for 100 years, especially in the field of science, which did not stop its cooperation even during the World War II.
The plenary session was held in the conference hall of the Government House on 10 September, 2021. Speaking with a welcoming speech, the Head of the Republic of Buryatia Tsydenov A. S. noted the importance of both Mongolian-Russian relations in general and relations between Mongolia and Buryatia. The Head of Buryatia particularly focused on the opening of the Kyakhta border checkpoint, the throughput which was doubled and stressed that the Mongolian people are the first people who supported Russia during the strike of the fascist troops, provided invaluable assistance and made a significant contribution to the Victory over fascism. And all the subsequent time Mongolia and Russia were the closest partners and friends.
The next sessions of the conference took place at the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS. Distinguished participants and leading scientists from Russia and Mongolia were discussed their over 80 presentations in 6 sessions.
As part of the conference, an off-site meeting of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences was held for signing of several agreements between Mongolian and Russian scientific organizations, those of an "Agreement on Scientific Cooperation and Expansion of Scientific Relations between the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences", and an "Agreement on network partnership of the International Scientific Center of the SB RAS on the problems of transboundary interactions in North and North-East Asia and the Mongolian Academy of Sciences" as well as an "Agreement on international research cooperation between the Buryat Research Institute of Agriculture and the Mongolian Academy of Agricultural Sciences".
On occasion of this event researchers of the Institute of History and Ethnology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences academician Batbyat Ts. and Dr. Khishigt N. were awarded the title “Doctor of Honor” of the Institute for Mongolian, Buddhist and Tibetan Studies of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.
